A big congratulations to H2i venture SaliBiotics, whose founder Dr. Siew-Ging Gong has been awarded a $535,501 Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant. Gong, who is an Associate Professor at University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry, has received the funding to continue her team’s investigation into the use of a specific probiotic bacteria than can kill cavity-causing bacteria.

SaliBiotics, one of this past year’s Pitch Perfect finalists, is on a mission to fight tooth cavities, the world’s leading chronic disease, through the employment of a newly discovered probiotic bacteria that is found in the mouths of healthy children. The awarded CIHR grant will help Gong and her team test the efficacy and efficiency of their proposed innovative use of the bacteria, and investigate how it may be combined with a delivery vehicle, their novel hydrogel, for use with patients.

Congratulations Team SaliBiotics! We look forward to continuing to follow your exciting and innovative research.
