FemSTEM 2025 continues with an inspiring lineup of distinguished leaders in health innovation!

Fireside at FemSTEM is an interactive conversation series held each winter as part of H2i’s broader FemSTEM programming. During each Fireside, we sit down and chat with one incredible speaker. Speakers are distinguished women within the health entrepreneurship space and are joined by members of the H2i and UTE community as moderators.

Meet the Speaker:

Dr. Karina Gasbarrino is a distinguished scientist and entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in cardiovascular research. She earned her PhD in Experimental Medicine and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at McGill University, where she received numerous awards for her research, before transitioning into entrepreneurship. Karina transitioned into the realm of health entrepreneurship in 2019 and has since co-founded two start-ups. Currently, she takes on the role of Chief Executive Officer at her most recent venture, Sonaro Inc, a digital health start-up revolutionizing stroke risk assessment with 3D ultrasound and AI-powered diagnostics. 

Recognizing her impactful contributions, she has been honored with the Women’s Entrepreneurship Scholarship from the City of Montréal, the prestigious Mitacs Social Entrepreneur Award, and an accolade from the Ontario Brain Institute. Beyond her role at Sonaro, Karina serves as the Director of Technology at the World Youth Heart Federation, where she champions the involvement of youth in advancing cardiovascular health technology. Karina is passionate about leveraging her scientific background and entrepreneurial skills to make a lasting impact on global health. Her leadership at Sonaro reflects her commitment to improving patient outcomes through innovative technology.
