Our Mental Health Awareness session invites entrepreneurs of all backgrounds to come together and discuss their lived experiences, tips, and tricks for mental health and stress management.

Each year, H2i holds a dedicated event centering mental health awareness and support within the entrepreneurial community. Life is complex, and starting your own business can make it even more so.

Meet the Keynote Speaker and Panelists

We have assembled a diverse panel of community members who have lived experience across the entrepreneurial spectrum, from earlier stage venture creation to advanced venture scaling.

This year, we have speakers who span the industry, research, and clinician spaces, providing valuable additional insight into effective practices for balancing entrepreneurship and other pursuits.

Liam O’Leary is a lover of all things involving black coffee and bicycles. He is a certified coach and the lead for graduate professional development at the University of Toronto.

He takes a solution-focused approach to supporting students in their personal, academic, and professional growth. You can find him at Grad Room on the St. George campus.


Linnea Aasen-Johnston, MSc, ACRP-CP has over 15 years of clinical research and clinical marketing experience in the medical device industry. She is the founder and principal for BESPOKE Business Solutions Inc. providing clinical business consulting to healthcare technology companies, research networks and other life science organizations. Her services include clinical strategy, planning, trial execution, clinical marketing and training. Linnea has also recently co-founded MedTest Usability Partners, a usability testing partner service for medical devices.

Linnea specializes in clinical trials for novel technology and innovative care pathways in the Canadian healthcare market. Linnea is a solutions-focused professional who is passionate about excellence and improving outcomes through multiple stakeholder alignment and collaboration. She has spearheaded the development and delivery of provincial programs aimed at reducing clinical trial start-up times and increasing research capacity at institutions.

Linnea also serves as an advisor and mentor to a number of organizations including Advisor in Residence, Clinical Research for the Health Innovation Hub, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.

Dr. Bradley Strauss is an interventional cardiologist with a specific interest in coronary chronic total occlusions and developing novel cardiac devices and therapies. He is also interested in the commercialization of coronary innovations.

Dr. Strauss is a founder of the Medventions Innovation Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Yasaman Soudagar is a co-founder of Neurescence Inc.

Soudagar holds a PhD in the field of experimental quantum optics, with focus on quantum computing. Her rigorous training enabled her to invent the optical technology of Neurescence that helps bridging this knowledge gap. Since 2015, Soudagar has raised investment from experts in both neuroscience/neurosurgery and optical fields and attracted a passionate team of individuals with deep business and technical expertise in the field.

Under her leadership and in just 3 years, Neurescence has launch Quartet® - a complete hardware/software product - and already sold a number of systems, generating more than $0.5M in revenue. She has negotiated distribution and finder fee agreements with multiple companies and has created highly respected sales channels in NA, EU and Asia. Neurescence is ready to scale both its sales and manufacturing.

Soudagar is proud of the recognition Neurescence’s team has received through numerous awards:

  1. Top 10 Microscopy Innovation of 2018
  2. MassChallenge Boston 2018 (126 companies from more than 1600 applicants)
  3. First place at Toronto RESI Challenge
  4. First place at the Novature trail Blazers 2019
  5. Luminate 2019, an optics focused accelerator annually accepting only 10 companies for investment
  6. Top 8 in a number of Toronto and Waterloo pitch competitions.
