MariTest
MariTest is a medtech venture developing an AI-powered, non-invasive malaria diagnostic platform for underserved communities where access to reliable testing is still limited. The idea grew out of our founder Hakim’s own experience with malaria on Bussi Island, where the lack of available diagnostic tools delayed his diagnosis and nearly cost him his life. That experience became the starting point for building a faster, bloodless way to test for malaria closer to the people who need it most.
Our reusable handheld device uses fingertip contact to detect the paramagnetic signature of hemozoin, a biomarker produced by malaria parasites, without requiring a blood draw or disposable diagnostic strip. It is paired with the MariTest Intelligence Center, which turns screening data into real-time insights for surveillance, outbreak monitoring and health-system decision-making. We are currently fundraising to conduct clinical trials in Uganda, a critical step toward regulatory approval and our first market entry before expanding into other high-burden African countries.
